Electricity question...why does this keep happening?
OK, you know that red button that's on some electrical outlets? Well, we have a low-wattage fluorescent light above our kitchen sink, plugged into a power strip (that was already there when we moved in, affixed to the counter area above the sink...we thought at the time that it was unsafe, but it's a rental apartment and we're not allowed to do much). The power strip is plugged into the wall outlet that has the red reset button. The other things plugged into the power strip include a coffee maker, toaster, and can opener. We've tried unplugging all these things, but each time we push the red reset button, after about 30 seconds it pops out again and nothing works that is plugged into that outlet (including anything connected to the power strip). What is the problem? Any advice? Thanks.
the thing with the red reset is called a G.F.I.(ground fault interrupter)u find them around plugs that are around water.try plugging your stuff into the plug in the bathroom .should be G.F.I. also.plug 1 at a time if G.F.I. pops its the appliance.if they all work 1 at a time then try all at once like kitchen.if it pops with all in just 2 Meany things at once. if not then G.F.I. in kitchen is probley bad .easy 2 replace cost 3,4 bucks.turn off elc 2 that plug at fuse box take plate off pull old GFI from wall lousin 2 screws take wire off old G.F.I. AND CONNECT 2 new G.F.I. AND PUT BACK in wall.u can attach wire's any where but just one per side
