Pipe Tube Bender
If you heat a steel pipe to bend it then cool it fast with ice water does it make it a little stronger?
I need to bend some tube but i dont have a pipe bender and yes i no about making them and buying them. I no when u heat steel the area you heated gets weeker. I just wanna no if you heat it then cool it will it make it a little stronger.
Heating will change the micro structure of steel and hence the pipe gets week.
But it will not get that much week that you wont even notice the difference.
By cooling it in water(quenching) you will make the pipe hard but brittle. Some times this can produce cracks in the pipe which will act as a highly vulnerable spot for corrosion. The best way is to allow the red hot pipes to cool to black in air and further cooling in water by occasional dipping.
