Tankless Water Heater: Basic Ideas
It is frustrating and to wake up and find out there is no hot water in the bathroom shower and the clock is reminding you to leave for work. Maybe your hot water storage tank ran empty or your tankless water heater is broken down. The idea of replacing it or buying a new one begins to weigh heavily on you and getting to the shower becomes a bother.
Unlike hot water storage tank, tankless hot heaters provide hot water on demand and make a good residential provider of hot water. They allow you to get water at the moment of need hence its reinvigoration saves you on time, energy and money that you pay as tax to the government. Before you set out to embrace it, be informed that it has demerits especially when wrong applications are used. They can be very expensive and disappointing due to wrong use hence utmost care must be taken at all times when operating them.
They come in two versions; the whole house and the point of use. You can also find those that use propane, natural gas and electric tankless water heaters. They are designed to heat varying quantities of water e.g. a single cup or water to serve even two bathroom showers. At times, geographical locations determine the amount of hot water a tankless hot water heater has to generate at a time. It is therefore imperative you learn a little about these tankless appliances before making up a decision to purchase or replace your non performing hot water heater.
When you decide it is time to install a tankless hot water heater, ensure its location in the house or home enables you to receive hot water almost immediately. The hot water may take a little time before it finally gets to the shower, sink or even the tap in your bathroom; but this should not mean the appliance is defective.
The appliance operates by heating the water as it passes the water tubes/ pipes in the unit. This process is streamline and guarantees you instant hot water whenever you get to shower or sink if you need water to wash your greased hands. Note that damp places or locations are not recommended and they must be placed slightly above the ground.
It is also important to consider plumbing; ensure the dimensions of the pipes relaying hot and cold water are have equidistant from each other and make sure your new purchase measure the same with the like the old hot water unit. Be advised that when you the plumbing is not right, your have a very long way to go and these means you have to do more.
Incase you have tankless gas water heater, ensure gas union is present in the gas line, water shutoff that regulates cold water to the unit before you start the exercise. You should not assume that since you had a water heater before everything is okay, you’ll be disappointed at the start.
When all is said and the tankless water heater is ready for use, size the system to the required temperatures of water and ensure ground water temperature of the incoming water is to standard.
By doing this, you’ll have your hot water needs solved and no more disappointments or spending more of your little earnings.

is it safe to use the previous copper tubing water hookup for icemaker on new unit or should new flex piping?
i have been informed that i should have new flex piping installed for ice maker for a new refrigerator freezer because connections from old copper tubing to new unit might leak and that it could also invalidate the warranty on new unit.
If it's in good shape it should work fine. If you are worried about leaking end connections, they are cheap and easy to replace. I see no warranty issues for this.
