hammered copper sink
Help! I think I broke my sink's pop-up?
My sink was backing up so I decided to take a closer inspection by dissembling and cleaning the parts. But upon dissembling, I accidentally broke off the copper pop-up (the unit above the p-trap/tail piece) from the drain body. I tried disconnecting the copper pop-up from the p-trap/tail piece so I could hammer the thing back into the drain body but it didn't work. Any ideas?
I was looking at copper pop-ups using google search and found I was referring to the wrong unit. The unit I was referring to was the COPPER PIPPING that's connected to the end of the pop-up. That's the part I can't reconnect.
unfortunatly you broke it. the copper piping under the pop up assembly is a threaded peice you won't be able to jam it back into place. you may try to undo the broken threads in the popup assembly and replace the 1 1/4 threaded tail peice. but I would suggest going to your local hard ware store and buying a new popup assembly and replacing the whole thing. tailpeice copper tubing usually included. 1 undo the nut at the back of the pop up assembly and remove the stopper. 2 undo the nut at the base of the sink all the way. 3 push up on the pipe under the sink and unscrew the chrome peice in the sink where the stopper sat. then the whole thing will come out of the sink. replace the popup using reversed instructions. but you must put some kind of sealant under the chrome peice in the sink before tightening either plumbers putty or silicone. and a thread sealant on the new threaded tailpeice before installation.
