Bare Tool

Can one season a cast-iron power tool?
I recently acquired an old, cast-iron scroll saw. It's about 70 years old, but not in bad shape (it really just needs cleaning and re-oiling of the moving parts)
The only problem I have is the color: it's the same color, only dirtier, as the asterisk bubble for Yahoo! Answers. Although good for an icon, bad for a whole power tool.
My thought was to strip it to the bare metal, remove all the parts that aren't the body, and season it like a cast-iron pan. My fear is that it would weaken and/or crack the metal, simply because it's so old. What do you think?
The purpose of seasoning a cast iron pan is to make it non-stick. A cast iron tool, you don't want to do that. If you're going to strip it down to bare metal, you can just spray some paint on it. 2 or 3 light coats. Maybe one of those rust-preventive paints.
