Air Ratchet
Will an airpowered ratchet be able to take out the bolts on the brake calipers of a truck?
I thinking about buying an air compressor with an air ratchet, but can that ratchet have plenty of power to take out frozen bolts? Thanks
Along with all the other no's, no one mentioned the air ratchet only has 45 ft/lbs of torque, the bolts on most calipers are torqued to 60 to 85 ft/lbs. You can use the air ratchet with as a regular ratchet, but there is a small pin that runs it may not stand the torque.
Anyhow, like 'grandpa says' should have pointed out, use a breaker bar, it is the only thing with enough torque to get them out without galling if they have been over torqued. If you use an air drive, you could be replacing a lot of parts due to galling of the bolts. I would use impact sockets if it is that tight, nothing worse than a knuckle rap when a socket breaks.
