Granite and an undermount sink?
I have a relatively unusual under-mount sink that I want as part of my bathroom. When I buy the granite and the "cut" it, do they need to know the dimensions of the sink so it can fit nicely? Or is granite "cut" for a standard sink? I guess my question is basically how does the shape of the sink effect the granite that you will use.
First you mount the sink in a plywood top over the cabinet. Then the stone fabricator will come out and measure the cabinet, location and dimensions of the sink, location and type of faucet. The counter man will cut the necessary holes in the granite, come back and install the counter over the sink.
If you had the literature or 'installation cut sheets' from the sink, faucet and free standing cabinet, then you could give these to the fabricator and maybe save him the trip out to your home. But then you would be responsible if the counter didn't fit. Also the counter likely abutts a wall on two sides, has a back splash which may come close to a mirror or electrical outlet, all of which the counter fabricator will account for.
