Brass Banisters
I have polished these banisters
the ones brass laid and curved
a hundred times, times more
but never my fingerprints there.
Still I dream of that day some day
that maybe my children
will grace this banister
with their elegant fingerprints.
Is my dream so foolish to you?
To wish to rise, to soar?
Though I wear my uniform
beneath are the fine threads of silk.
Waiting for the cocoon to break
this butterfly… will never die.
It seems to be a maid in a mansion whose reality is not her job nor her status but the person behind those things. And that person is worthy and cultured and knows far more than any gives credit. Now tell me this is a metaphor for war or something and I never saw it. LOL <---I laugh quite heartily at my own foibles.
