what might it cost to have my 1ct diamond stone put in a new platinum cathedral setting w/ diamonds on sides?
it is worth it, or will it cost so much that i might as well get a new rings all together? I would like it to be thick and beautiful and hold the stone up high.
is it usually pretty expensive to do so?
It really depends on the quality and quantity of the stones on the side on how your price will vary. Platinum is already going to cost a bit more than white gold. The luster on platinum is not as shiny. I guess you like the white metal look instead of yellow gold.
Diamond prices are easily changed by size and quality. If you change color, the price will change, but so will the look. You have a diamond, so that is your starting point. If you stone is a good "looker" use that and have your jeweler match the side stone as close or maybe a slight step lower. Too high will be a waste, too low will not be a good compliment.
Also keep in mind the higher it is, you will snag on clothes, chip,and possibly loose your stone or scratch others....kids or hubby. Also keep in mind what is a good compliment to your hand. Too high will overstate the ring instead of being a partnership between your hand, nails, and the ring.
Lastly only you can decide is it worth it.
