should I steer my brother away from taekwondo?
my younger brother has expressed an interest in learning taekwondo for self defense. I feel like I should convince him not to take it. I do not have anything against taekwondo it is just that I feel there are more practical arts out there. Here are some reasons why I feel taekwondo is not the way to go.
taekwondo requires alot of distance and not is not very good up close
too many flashy kicks
no grappling
too many mcdojos out there
I cant see many people throwing these kicks in normal clothes
again no offense to you taekwondo guys 
Well it's not like that at all. And good teachers teach you to avoid a fight by keeping distances and only as a last resort use what you've learnt. It honestly does work in self defense, some people say it's bad because they think their style is best and all the others stink, which isn't true. It's a martial arts, so it does teach self defense. Also if it's something he wants to do, then let him, there's no point getting him into a style he's not interested in.
