Dog agiilty steel based weaves?

Okay so I'm building my own steel based weaves but I'm not sure how long to make the support poles.(The metal pipes welded to the base that are hidden under the PVC) I was thinking 5 inches. Is that okay? How long should they be?

Mine are about 5 inches. The PVC poles just slip over as you said. They don't need attached in anyway as someone else suggested. Go with the 24" spacing. Most Agility organizations are quickly changing to these. So much easier on the dog's spines.
