RTK GPS Shot Accuracy?
Which option would give more accurate results?
1. The average of two RTK GPS shots on the same point separated by 30 seconds.
2. The average of two RTK GPS shots on the same point separated by 2 hours.
Pleas, explain.
If you have a good RTK system then it shouldn't make much difference.
2 hours will in theory be a little better since the satellite constellation will have changed, that means that constellation dependent errors will be different and so average out more than for two points taken 30 seconds apart when those errors will be very similar.
Of course it depends when you take the points, ionospheric effects get worse in the evening, constellation geometry is constantly changing and has a huge impact on accuracy etc... So if the conditions are worse 2 hours later then the increased error due to other factors could well be more than the decrease in error due to taking the two points further apart.
And if accuracy is really that important then you wouldn't be taking two points 30 seconds or 2 hours apart. You'd be taking a point every second for at least 40 minutes and averaging.
