Honda CV joint Install Problems?
1994 Honda Accord EX manual trans.
I am pretty comfortable with just about all repairs but this one has stumped me...
I needed wheel bearings (and yes they are pressed into spindle pancaked with rotors and heat shield)
Drivers side inner CV is giving me fits (square roller bearing) on removal of the spindle the joint and bearings fell out.I did not mark the spider gear on boot replacement, but found 3 marks to line up on end of shaft.
I have tried instal of cv with and without strut in place, and both still leave the cv sticking straight out with very little play ( even at different lengths )
It does bite the stut fork a bit. I have tried all positions I can with cv and cup . I am afraid to drive with the cv biting the fork....has anyone else had similar problems?
If you need it, I can get you a copy of the driveshaft replacement procedure from the 1994 Accord manual.
If you think the axle coming apart is the reason why you can't get it back together and markings are essential to proper reasassembly then your cheap way out may be to buy a re-man axle. they are only about $65 and come assembled with new joints, lube and boots. Just a thought. I'm not sure marking the axle components makes any difference other than to take advantage of existing wear patterns of the matching components and minimizing new wear to the joint by introducing them to other existing wear patterns.
