Rocker Panel
Body work. Need advice on how to touch up scratch on rocker panel.?
09 honda civic. Right front to right rear rocker panel. I have about 1 foot and a half of a deep scratch. To the metal of the car. Its been like that for a month or so now. I think it may start to rust. So how would i clean the rust of the car, and repaint the rocker panel. If there is another step i need to know i want to know.
Well if you are going to repaint the Rocker Panel you start by sanding it down until the scratch is smooth... start with 120 sand paper, then 220, then 400 or higher. You have to get it smooth. Then wipe it clean with paint thinner or wax/grease remover. Then primer the area. Then sand the primer with 400 and then 600. Then Paint it. Then Clear coat it. It's not as easy or as cheap as you think.
You alternatives are: 1) Take it to a auto-body shop and have them do. 2) Lightly clean the rust out of the scratch with an SOS pad and paint it with touch up paint that comes in a little bottle at the auto parts store. or 3) Clean the rust out and then use a Crayola Crayon (the kind children use) to fill in the scratch and buff it in. Crayons are nothing more than colored wax.
