Primed Poplar

What's the best kind of wood to use to build something that will be outside, exposed to rain and cold weather?
The choices at the local Lowes are red oak, aspen, C & better pine, #2 whitewood, poplar, or primed MDF. I can probably get other types elsewhere.
Depending on your application, some pressure treated pine shall suffice (allow to dry fully before building your project, because most you will buy out of a home improvement store chain has not.)
Now, going by cost:
Poplar is a good wood (sealed and painted!)
Red Oak (hard wood), stands up well, a bit more tough to work with...being a hard wood
Teak, much! more expensive! Last a Lifetime after proper sealing/treatment w/maintenance (used on boat decks)
There are also newer composite 'woods' made from recycled (mainly plastic) that are said to retain color and last, but I haven't worked with much of those, so I cannot vouch.
If you decide to go with the less expensive, make sure you seal the end grain well, if the wood shall touch the ground, or concrete
