Powered Cut

What do you do if you have an Incubator and have a power cut?
I'm going to start hatching chicks in my incubator but what do I do if I have a power cut through the night, I won't know and the chicks will get cold inside the eggs and die. Day time is ok I can just put them down my Tshirt but what of night time?. Is there a alram I can get for when the power goes off ?....
You could get an emergency power supply which is basically like a chargeable battery/power supply unit.
A lot of places sell them for use with computers if you're working on something and your power goes out so you have about a 30 minute supply of energy to successfully save and turn your computer off until the power comes back on.
Most "freak power outages" don't last more than 15-20 minutes though, and that is not long enough (if the incubator is kept sealed) to cause any true detriment to the viability of the eggs.
Keep in mind hens leave the nest usually 1-2 times a day to eat, defecate and drink.. as long as the eggs aren't in room temperature conditions for more than 30 minutes you are safe.. and if the lid is kept shut tight it does a great job of keeping a good deal of heat and humidity inside during the interim.
For large scale power outages you're either SOL or you'd need to buy a generator ![]()
I think those situations are a dime a dozen though.
