How does antenna rotator work?
My question is this. I do not have the rotator control, just the rotator. It is installed on the antenna. Is there a way to actuate the motor without the control? Is it a dc motor? If I hook it to a dc power source, will it operate? What voltage? What does the controller do? I am assuming it sends a dc current to the motor. I would like to find a way to operate this motor without the controller. Can you help me?
Most rotators use 24 volts DC 3 amps. A double pole/ double throw switch with a center off position will control the motor movement circuits, but be sure you are on the motor wires and NOT the wires that are used to signal the present antenna position back to the regular box.
