Paste Compound

Thermal Compound/Paste question?
Alright so here's the deal. I had to take apart my fan and heat-sink to blow away the dust that was caked on, since compressed air wasn't working unless I actually took it apart and did it piece by piece.
I got rid of all the dust, and put it back together, but I forgot to put thermal compound on the CPU.
The computer is running fine at the moment, but I was wondering if it's worth the hassle of going back and putting the thermal paste on the CPU? Or should I just let it be?
NOTE: It already has Thermal Compound on it from before, but I'm not sure if you are supposed to reapply the thermal compound every time you take apart the heatsink.
While it *IS* good practice to clean the surfaces and apply new thermal compound, if the old compund is still there it may not be necessary to take it apart again. If you have a cooler processor, a decent heat sink and good air flow you won't notice a difference. I'd monitor the temps for a while and see how they do. If they don't spike above what you're comfortable with, why take it apart again?
