Parts Service

My refrigerator and freezer just stopped working. We cleaned the coils and other parts in the service area. ?
I want to check the coolant. How do I make sure it is good and how do I refill it. Any other ideas on how to fix? Any answers will help me not lose my food tonight! Thanks!
Checking refrigerant levels in a refrigerator is not normally something you can do yourself. Fridges are usually sealed systems with no gauge ports. The only way to check the refrigerant pressures is to have a service man pierce the process tube with a special tool and hook up his gauge that way. If it turns out that it is low on charge, that means there is a leak somewhere in the system, so if it is an old fridge, the cost to repair could be more than what it's worth. May be time for a new one.
