can we measure the consumption of power of a particular appliance by clamp meter ?

because as far as i know we can calculate the load by the clamp meter of any particular appliance, so by using power & power energy calculations we can easily find out the energy consumption of that appliance, is this true ?
where we apply or clamp the clamp meter on a particular appliance or device ?
