When should I replace high pressure sodium bulb?
I have a garage light that has high pressure sodium bulb on a dusk to dawn sensor. For some reason, during the night when the light is supposed to stay on, it turns on and off randomly. I already tried replacing the sensor but it still does it. I have had this light fixture and bulb for about a year. I am thinking that the light bulb might need to be replaced.
That is the symptom of a bad HPS bulb …when it cools down it comes back up, and then repeats the cycle.
It surprises me that it has only lasted a year …I probably have something similar to yours, and it has been trouble free for over 10 years.
Just an FYI …if and when your ballast ever goes {depending on your fixture} it is usually less expensive to buy a whole new lamp than a ballast kit.
