I need to bond my above ground pool for inspection.?

However, the only metal within 5 feet is the pool posts and rails which are connected to each other.

Now I know I need #8 solid copper, but if the pump is double insulated am I just running the wire from one spot on the post to the pump, but not connecting it at the pump?

Also, does this wire have to be in pipe or can I just buried bare copper? If so, does the burying have to be to code? Or do I even have to bury it?

Does the bonding wire have to circle around the pool?

The whole idea is to get it right the first time so I don't have to pay twice for the inspector.

Don't worry, the electrical inspector will be happy to tell you how you did it wrong.

I suspect they're asking you to run a ground wire from a ground rod to the pump. There's probably a place inside the pump where the wires go in for the ground to fasten to, if not, I'd fasten it to any steel bolt on the pump housing (the pump manual should say). Some areas want 2 ground rods, do you know if 1 is enough? I don't think they care how deep the wire is buried, it's usually right up against a building and I've seen it buried just an inch or two. No, it doesn't have to be in conduit.

Really, it depends on the area, and the inspector. Every inspector has his own list of preferences, and many of them don't like homeowners that do their own work. Like I said, they act thrilled to find something wrong, and they'll tell you about it. And, if you did it wrong, they'll come back again to check it. That's just part of the ordeal. Sorry.
