Grinding Metal
My front axis is making a grinding noise that sounds like chunks of loose metal when the vehicle is moving.?
This only really happens when I start moving the vehicle after a while and only at slow speeds. there is no extreme noise or louder noise at higher speeds, just this low grinding noise and what sounds like chunks of metal clunking around. my vehicle for reference is a 99 ford ranger pickup. i only had the vehicle for about a month now. the noise does not change when i am making turns or whatever else. its pretty constant with it just moving forward.
Is your ranger IFS or solid axle? I cant remember what they are. If its IFS it might be a an axle shaft has given it up. Check the boots on the two shafts and see if they are split or if there is grease all over the wheel bearings and rim.
