Fits Angle

Angle Stops Do I have to remove ferrule?
I have several angle stops in my home which need to be replaced, the new angle stops I purchase fit into the nut on the 1/2" copper pipe. My question is do I have to remove the old ferrule or should I be ok using the old ferrule and nut as it fits into the new angle stop? I have had problems in the past trying to get ferrules off the copper pipe.
The brass ferrule is designed to compress around the pipe to form a water tight seal. It often fails after the first compression. You may find that some will reseal and others won't. The only way to find out is to try it. Often there is enough pipe protruding to allow for a short length including the old ferrule to be cut off.
