Farmhouse sinks? Why the obsession with them in This Old House?
It seems like these one part farmhouse sinks are all the rage - what is so good about them? I have a standard 2 part sink, with both bowls the same size and I can like 200 jars of produce, process deer carcasses, freeze even MORE produce, and cook almost every meal from scratch. So I am wondering, what is supposed to be good about them, or is it just for style? Maybe it is just for style, or maybe there is something practical - that's why I ask. tx!
It's probably mostly for style, though I'll tell you that when I renovate my kitchen, I'm getting the biggest darned sink I can wedge in there, at least 3 feet wide. I'm very tired of my double sink that's just a bit too small to get cookie sheets, canning kettles, muffin tins, frying pans, roasting pans, and large cutting boards into to wash them, without splashing water all over. I'd like to just be able to place those things right inside the sink. Half the time I give up and wash them in the bathtub which is a painful process, bending over to do it, now that I have arthritis. Maybe your double sink bowls are just that much bigger than mine, because mine just aren't big enough. I've washed dishes in restaurant kitchens and it's great to be able to put large things right inside the sink.
