Drive Impact

Does hard drive read/write speeds impact computer performance noticeably?
Got a computer from a friend and he kept the hard drive what is best to put in it. Computer has Dual Xeon 3.8ghz and 8gig RAM, I'm going to use the computer for gaming any suggests.
Yes it can...depending on what you have. an SSD would be faster than any conventional hard drive. SATA 6GT/s would be a bit better than 3GT/s and much better than IDE. More cache would make transfers smoother 10,000 RPM drives are faster than 7200 RPM drives. It would take less time to search through a 500GB hard drive than a 1T drive. there are a lot of things that would effect the performance of the hard drive...HOW noticeable may not be a factor for some people. remember the "seek" times are in nanoseconds! The "server board" with Xeon CPUs are for doing huge amounts of "work" not necessarily for speed for gaming.
