Deck Railing
We recently had a deck built with very shoddy workmanship?
The railings on the two sets of stairs were not measured properly, and consequently stuck up higher than the deck railing.
The idiot then took a jig saw and just cut them off.
What a mess!
Any suggestions to cover the railings to hide this?
Email some photos to me, of where the stair railings were cut off, and of the deck railing adjacent to them. I may be able to help you select a nice way to finish them off.
Off the top of my head, I can think of a few approaches, depending on how the railing comes up to the deck railing.
A new top board, wider than the existing deck/stair railing could be applied over all (assuming the existing rails are flat topped)
A match to the top deck rail could be extended over, or added to the stair rail, where it was cut (cutting the stair rail down so the top surfaces would be flush, might be necessary)
A decorative plate/finial could be used to cover where the stair rail was cut, and to make it match the deck rails, you could add something similar to them.
The basic idea is to make it all match, if possible.
You want to be sure the stair rail is secured safely (hopefully when it was cut down, there wasn't a compromise in safety).
And I'd seriously consider taking the cost of reworking this, out of the final payment to the initial builder.
