Eroded faucet in my kitchen sink has uncovered red/bluish marks, any ideas?
In my kitchen sink, the chrome on the faucet, right where water comes out is eroded and has uncovered a greenish/bluish colour. These aren't stains, they seem to be the "under-material" of what the chrome on the tap was covering. The water passes this green stuff every time I open the tap, I think it may be copper but I would think is stupid to make a whole faucet out of copper and then over it with chrome. Any idea to what this is?
Faucets are made of brass and then chrome plated. It is not stupid. This is the way its done and has been done for a lot of years All faucets weather chrome, pewter, gold, start out with a brass casting. You cannot cast chrome.You may be able to remove the aerator and replace it with a new one. The best thing to do is get a whole new faucet.
