Does the Sally Hansen Double Duty Top & Bottom Coat work?
Does it prevent chipping effectively?
And does it help prevent discoloration of nails?
Or should I get the separate Top Coat and Base Coat from OPI?
Which top coats(prevents chipping) & bottom coats (protects nails from color) do you recommend?
That product, specifically, has been my go-to base coat for YEARS. I've tried an outrageous amount of other brands, because I like to mix it up. I have used OPI, Orly, China Glaze, Zoya, CND, Gelous, Barielle, and I'm sure other ones along the way. I constantly keep using and rebuying Sally Hansen Double Duty. It's even on my nails right now. One of my favorite things about the product that amazes me is that I rarely get yellowing. I frequently have nail polish on, and even after almost a week worth of a typically staining red, my nails don't yellow. Occasionally, I'll use a polish that is just going to stain regardless. But it doesn't yellow my nails, it just stains them the color of the polish. But if you're careful removing the polish when you know it's one that is difficult, it makes it easier.
I also have essentially no issues with chipping, however I've also found a combination of things that help prevent this. In addition to Double Duty, I use Seche Vite as a top coat. I do NOT use Double Duty as a top coat. I've tried it, and I don't like it. But as a base coat, it is amazing. I absolutely suggest trying Seche Vite.
The other thing to help prevent chipping is WRAP YOUR TIPS!! Wrapping will REALLY help prevent chipping. Wrap every layer you use from base to top. Wrapping is simply when you make sure the polish goes over the tip of your nail and just around to the underside. So when you look at your nail straight on at the tip, you don't see the white of your nail.
