I need help choosing stainless steel cookware?
I'm not willing to spend nearly $900 on an All-Clad set of pots and pans, but I want quality. As long as the metal used says 18/10 and it is heavy, do you think its all about the same? I definately don't want non-stick. What is your opinion.
I invested in an All-Clad collection about 12 years ago - and my pots are still like new. I clean them by hand (no dishwasher ever) and dry them completely. I think I'll have them for many more years so the money was worth it.
I used to work in a cooking supply store, and honestly, All Clad weren't even top of the line. Copper was, and I also loved this nonstick line called Scanpan from Scandinavia. They cost a fortune.
What if you don't get a set - but just a few components? You could get an inexpensive cast iron fry pan/skillet if you don't mind the weight and are willing to keep it seasoned. (Forge makes a great one.) Then you just need an inexpensive large pot (for soups and boiling pasta) and two good All Clad type pans (I recommend a saucier or small saucepan and a larger saute pan with lid.) Then over time you can add to your collection.
This should save you a lot of money, but give you the versatility you need.
