Chisel Punch
Need ideas to remove alternator through bolt?
92 civic. the through/pivot bolt on alternator will not budge. i've been hitting it with hammer and so forth and soaked it with blaster but won't move. the assembly looks like this http://media.honda.co.uk/car/owner/media/manuals/CivicManual/pdf/23-a96.pdf on page 8 you see the bolt i'm speaking of. I tried to get ahold of an air chisel with a punch bit but no luck.
the head is square and pressed against a landing on the bracket as to keep it from turning. i just got done using propane torch slamming on it directly with a hammer still nothing. i don't understand how it won't move with how hard i'm hitting it. i must be missing something....but it can't be threaded because the way the head and the bracket are set up theres no possible way it can turn
Are you sure that it isn't threaded into the bracket itself? Did you remove the nut from it? At 33 ft/lbs, it shouldn't be nearly all that tight. Perhaps the factory square headed bolt has been replaced and is threaded into the bracket-is the bolt standard hex-headed or the factory squared on that fits into the notch on the bracket's back side?
