Cedar Log

Can cedar bark benefit houseplants?
There is a rotting cedar log on my place which had around it some finely decomposed cedar...are there nutrients in this that can help my house plants?
Cedar bark can be used as mulch for houseplants.
A chemical benefit: it contains insect repellent volatile oil
Physical benefits: insulates soil by regulating temperature in winter and summer, controls weed and erosion in cause of its property to form coherent layers and it retains moisture.
In former times cedar bark was used to produce textiles and these days it is a raw material in production of wall papers and fiber boards.

Decomposed plant material always contains some nutrients, but I never heard and did not find any publication reporting its use as fertilizer. Its high content of cellulose makes this use difficult to imagine.
