Caterpillar Equipment

Why is the conservative Wall St. Journal writing about how U.S. companies have started "onshoring" jobs?
Quoting:
"Caterpillar Inc. is considering relocating some heavy-equipment overseas production to a new U.S. plant, part of a growing movement among manufacturers to bring more operations back home -- a shift that will likely spark fierce competition among states for new manufacturing jobs."

Offshoring has not really proven to provide all the benefits that companies once thought were possible. The dollar was falling before Obama took office, BTW and because of Bush and Cheney policies we also have more instability in many areas of the world where these manufacturers are located. This move doesn't help the Rust Belt where many of these companies WERE operating, and many states and counties will find that they sacrifice a lot to bring these jobs into their area. However, they ARE jobs and that's what is needed. With new facilities, the companies are much less likely to pick up and move again.
