Caterpillar Cat

My cat brought a tobacco horn-worm caterpillar home last night. Is this rare?
I live in England. I have looked on the internet and this species is mainly found in warm american states? Have these ever been found in the UK? Anyone know anything about these violent things? It has a horn and tries to spear anything that goes near it. Apparently the moth it grows into can have a 12cm wingspan?
When I said brought home I meant in its mouth you funny bunch you!!! you know like a mouse or bird!
I'd say it's not a Tobacco Hornworm Moth caterpillar, but a Privet Hawkmoth caterpillar, which is native to the UK http://ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=430. The Tobacco Hornworn Moth is not a native of or a migrant to the UK.
The larva of the Privet Hawk-moth caterpillar is strikingly similar to the pictures of the Tobacco Hornworm moth larva which you may have found on the internet.
It's not a horn, it's a spur on its hind end. It will thrash about a bit, especially if it has been punctured by the cat's claws or teeth.
