Carbon Steel

What type of carbon steel is the standar muffler tube?
I know it is carbon steel, but is it corrosion resistance?
It is typically a fairly low strenth, high ductility steel - probably conforming to BS 970 430S15 (EN60) that has been 'aluminized' - hot dipped in aluminium-silicon alloy to increase corrosion resistance. This provides a good molecular bond at the interface and is normally more resilient than electro-plating methods although it's a far more expensive operation to set up.
Some may be galvanised but that's probably no longer the case. Might be in Chinese exhausts. I'm so long out of the steel market now, I'm not entirely sure.
Unfortunately, neither process is capable of protecting the steel for more than a couple of years or so - depending upon local conditions. Guess that's good news for the manufacturer, though...
