Blue Air

My heater is blowing hot air, then cold air, blue aux heat light is coming on.?
I live in an apt. and it is all electric. It is about 29 degrees here and I have my thermostat set at about 72 degrees. It will blow warm air then it will blow cool air and a blue light that says "aux heat" is coming on. I don't think I have ever seen it on before. What is going on and what should I do?
It sounds like the thermostat is cutting in and out. Most heaters have more than one heating element, perhaps the main element has stopped working for some reason and you're running a secondary element at full capacity which explains it cutting in and out. If you must use that heater, turn the thermostat to the lowest setting that will give you any kind of heat but remain on constantly until you can have it looked at by a qualified electrician. If you get any kind of burning smell coming from it, switch it off immediately and unplug it from the power source, it may be unsafe to use. Good luck.
