Basin Kitchen

My kitchen sink(s) are backed up and clogged. What can I do?
I live in a single-family home with a dual-basin kitchen sink. The right-side of the sink has a garbage disposal, which is older, but in good working condition. When I use the disposal, water backs up into the other side of the sink and then does not drain. When I plunge the left side of the sink, the water comes out the right side drain. I plugged the disposal side and plunged the other side, but this has not freed the clog. I have tried drain-o, but that did not work. I own a 20 ft. snake, but I haven't tried that yet. I wanted to get some advice first!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
that exact thing is happening to my sink and the plumber said something about the pipes or what ever outside are not slanted right or something like that. I dont own I rent and the owners dont want to address the matter
